Inspection and Testing

Why you need Fixed Wire Testing at your premises

Electrical installations, like all other things, deteriorate and endure damage in daily service. Conduits, cabling, seals, sockets and switches are all vulnerable to impact damage and wear and tear. Wiring can be distressed and contacts become loose due to unforeseen mechanical strains. Depending on the environment in which you work, corrosive liquids or atmospheric conditions can speed up the deterioration of both conductors and insulators, or cause wiring to oxidise quicker than normal. To reduce risks and ensure your wiring complies with all relevant regulations and obligations,  Cabrelli Electrical Ltd  provides comprehensive Fixed Wire Testing to 17th Edition  IEE Wiring Regulations.

What the regulations say

All commercial electrical installations should be inspected and tested on a regular basis to comply with current legislation, and you musttake appropriate precautions to minimise  the risk of electrical failure causing injury or death. Since July 2008, IEE Regulations 2008 -17th Edition have taken testing into line with European standards, and Cabrelli Electrical Ltd Fixed Wire Testing engineers, have all attained qualifications to the new standard.

Under the legislation, periodic inspection must be carried out at intervals not exceeding:

  • Commercial Installations – 5 years
  • Industrial Installations – 3 years
  • Buildings open to the public – 1 year
  • External Installations – 3 years
  • Caravan Parks – 1 year
  • Fire Alarms – 1 year
  • Short Term Installations – 3 months
  • Site Installations – 3 months.

In addition to meeting these regulations, you may need to test in order to comply with the requirements of landlords, insurers or, for example, Licensing authorities.

Portable Appliance Testing

Why you need your appliances PAT tested

Portable Appliance Testing records are high on the inspection list for Fire Officers and Health & Safety Inspectors. By having Cabrelli Electrical Ltd’s fully certified electrical test engineers inspect appliances within your premises frequently, you comply with the Electricity at Work Regulations (1989), as well as reducing  risk to life and property.  Our Portable Appliance Testing, is carried out to IEE Code of Practice, which also helps remove your exposure to a fire damage claim being challenged on grounds of poor maintenance.

What the regulations say

The UK Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (1998) requires that “every employer shall guarantee that work equipment is so built or adopted as to be appropriate for the purpose for which it is used or provided”.

The Electricity at Work Regulations (1989) states: “As may be necessary to prevent danger, all systems shall be maintained so as to prevent so far as reasonably practicable, such danger”

Taken together, these enforce  upon you a duty of care to guarantee  all electrical equipment is safe, suited to purpose and properly maintained. Cabrelli Electrical Ltd thorough PAT Testing gives you reassurance of having satisfied this obligation.
